Recipe: Disney Pixar’s BRAVE Great Granny’s Cullen Skink Recipe

Huh?!? What in the world is a Cullen Skink chowder? Turns out Cullen is the home of Cullen Skink, a smoked haddock soup which includes potatoes and onions. The town is in Scotland and it’s famous this potato and fish goodness. There are many recipes out there – some using mashed potatoes (often leftovers) in the soup and then some scrubbed new pototes or chunks of potatoes, but this one is a bit thinner. You can puree part of of the base chowder it if you like in the blender or food processor if you like a smoother soup.

Disney • Pixar provide us with this very traditional recipe that might have been enjoyed by Merida and her family back in the day. It would have kept them going on those long and cold winter days. Great Granny May Scott’s Cullen Skink Chowder Recipe

Serve this hearty fish and vegetable soup with crusty bread and butter.
Ingredients
- 2 oz butter
- 1 onion, diced
- 1 celery stalk, diced
- 8 oz potatoes, diced
- 10 oz stock chicken (or vegetable)
- 12 oz Smoked Haddock, cut into bite sized pieces
- 10 oz milk
- Pepper
- Fresh parsley to taste
- 3 tablespoons cream
Instructions
- Melt butter in pan over medium heat.
- Add onion and celery stalk, cook for 2 minutes or until the onion is translucent.
- Add the potatoes and cook for 1 additional minute.
- Add stock and cook over low heat for 20 minutes or until the vegetables are tender.
- Add the fish, milk, pepper, and parsley – stir and simmer for 5 minutes.
- Add the cream cream and stir until incorporated.
