Book Review: Quickly’s Magical Pancake Adventure is a Tasty Journey

Peanut Butter & Jelly Pancake Recipe

Quickly’s Magical Pancake Adventure is a new book in the Quickly’s series of books from the award winning writing duo of Miriam Kronish and Jeryl Abelmann.  This new book mixes a fun story with fun easy-to-make recipes making it even more fun!  Fun, colorful illustrations by Chason Matthams, can be found on every page, even the recipes, and they add to the joy. Quickly, The Magic Spatula, goes on a journey to find the best pancake recipes and the reader is taken along, and deliciously so.  The story is a perfect blend of whimsy and silliness with some recipes thrown in for fun to help bring the story to life.  Quickly befriends others along the way who help him discover more about this breakfast treat, including it’s history, how it got its name, and more about international variations.

What makes the story even more endearing is that the pancake recipes were provided by some of today’s most popular chefs including: Cat Cora, Jacques Pepin, Charles Phan,  Michael Chiarello, and Roy Yamaguchi.  There are 25 different pancake recipes in all!  Our favorite is the Peanut Butter and Jelly Pancakes recipe from Chef Craig von Forester.  It’s a recipe we’ll be trying it soon.  All of the recipes have easy-to-follow instructions plus tips on how children can be involved in the cooking process.

So is this a storybook or cookbook?  It’s both and you don’t have to be a kid to love the recipes.

Check out Quicklyʼs website for games, recipes, downloads, and more information about the book and the characters.
