Bad Kitty by Nick Bruel and Read by Vanessa Williams is Wicked Fun for Preschoolers
Bad Kitty is a delightful children’s book about a sweet kitten who when she’s told her favorite foods are all gone and that she’ll only get to choose her meal from 22 unappealing vegetables all named off in alphabetical order, she become a very bad kitty. She takes out her bad mood on everyone around her, also in alphabetical order, and it’s not until her owner brings home groceries that include her favorite anchovies and chicken cheesecake that her mood improves.
Kitty apologizes and makes amends in every way she can, including cleaning her own litter box, but that was only until the new puppy arrived in the family and once again Kitty loses her temper and things get crazy. For each letter of the alphabet there’s a silly sentence and fun picture so there are four words for each of the letters of the alphabet. The book is a fun way to introduce very young children to the alphabet.
Bad Kitty is narrated by Vanessa Williams of Desperate Housewives and Ugly Betty fame and a Broadway actress as well and when Kitty goes crazy she does it with aplomb! Williams’ voice is very recognizable and she adds a bit of wicked whimsy to the cat’s antics with her tone and ready style but she switches quickly to be sweet and charming. She’s a perfect fit for the storyline.
The book that accompanies the CD has fun illustrations that help to tell the story. The author/illustration, Nick Bruel, is a best-selling author who’s penned the Bad Kitty series as well as Boing! He began his career as a children’s bookseller in NYC. He’s married and has a daughter.
